Skills Matter

A hero’s skills are one of the biggest factors in determining how much damage your lineup can deal. Your maximum damage depends heavily on skill levels, which require Hero Shards and additional stars to unlock and upgrade.

Take time to read every skill carefully. Understanding which heroes benefit from each buff—and when those buffs activate—will help you build a much stronger Demon King lineup.

For example, consider a lineup consisting of Marlena, Claire, Cynthia, Harper, and Bell:

• Harper increases the Attack of every hero in the lineup with his ultimate skill. He also increases the Attack of all Warriors, giving Harper, Claire, and Marlena an additional boost.
• Bell buffs the two allies with the highest Attack. The exact targets depend on your heroes’ strength, but if Marlena and Cynthia have the highest Attack, they will receive the bonus. Bell also increases the Attack of all Rangers, benefiting herself and Cynthia.
• Claire increases monster damage for the three Warriors with the highest Attack. In this lineup, that would be Claire, Marlena, and Harper.
• Marlena receives four separate bonuses in this example. She also increases her own Energy Damage, allowing her to produce extremely high and consistent damage.
• Cynthia receives two external bonuses and improves her own Critical Hit performance. Her damage may be less consistent than Marlena’s, but her critical hits can deal as much—or potentially even more—damage.

The strength of each hero will affect how these buffs are distributed, so always confirm which heroes have the highest Attack before finalizing your lineup.

Choose Heroes Who Work Together

Placing your five strongest heroes in one lineup does not necessarily produce the best results. Their skills must complement one another.

Consider Jester, Zoya, and Annie:

• Jester primarily deals Physical Damage.
• Zoya deals Energy Damage with her whirlwind and causes enemies caught inside it to receive additional Energy Damage. Because Jester deals Physical Damage, he does not benefit much from this effect.
• Annie targets the two enemies with the highest Attack. Against a single enemy such as the Demon King, part of the normal value of this targeting mechanic may be lost.

Look beyond each hero’s individual power and consider how the entire lineup functions together. Pay attention to damage types, faction-specific buffs, targeting rules, and which allies receive each bonus.

Pay Attention to Skill Cooldowns

Knowing what a skill does is only part of the equation. You must also consider when it activates.

At the beginning of battle, each skill’s cooldown starts counting down. When the timer reaches zero, the hero uses the skill and the cooldown begins again. This means a damage dealer may use an important ability before a support hero’s buff becomes active.

For example, if Marlena activates her damage skill before Harper applies his Attack bonuses, her skill will not receive the full benefit of those buffs. Skill timing can therefore make a major difference in your total damage.

Gold UR heroes automatically unlock Tenacity when they reach level 30 and eight stars. Tenacity increases Attack, Health, and Defense while also improving cooldown timing. Reaching eight stars can help important buffs and attacks activate in a more favorable order.

Upgrading skills also increases the strength of their Attack bonuses and other effects. In some cases, a heavily upgraded damage dealer will outperform a weaker hero even when the weaker hero provides a faction advantage.

Understand Faction Bonuses

There are three types of Demon Kings: Warrior, Ranger, and Warlock. These factions interact in a rock-paper-scissors system:

• Warrior defeats Warlock.
• Warlock defeats Ranger.
• Ranger defeats Warrior.

Using the advantageous faction provides a 50% damage increase. However, this does not mean you should always build your entire lineup around the faction bonus.

A heavily invested hero from a neutral or disadvantaged faction may still outperform a much weaker hero with the advantage. For example, Rangers with highly upgraded skills may deal more damage against a Warlock Demon King than underdeveloped Warriors, even though Warriors receive the faction bonus.

Treat faction advantage as one part of the calculation—not an absolute rule. It matters most when comparing heroes with similar star levels, skill levels, gear, and overall strength. If there is a significant investment gap between them, use your stronger heroes and test the results.

Experiment With Hero Placement

Because the Demon King does not attack, you do not need to place tanks in the front row. Unfortunately, there is no single placement that works best for every account.

Changing the position of the same heroes can sometimes produce a surprisingly large difference in damage. This may be caused by skill timing, targeting behavior, or interactions that are not immediately obvious.

You receive ten Demon King attacks each day except Sunday, so use some of those attempts to experiment:

• Change one hero’s position at a time.
• Record the lineup, placement, and final damage.
• Repeat promising arrangements to confirm the result.
• Keep the formation that produces the most consistent damage.

Testing one change at a time makes it much easier to identify what is actually improving your score.

Sanctuary Skins and Effects

Sanctuary skins and effects can also increase the damage you deal in PvP and against monsters.

The Raven Black Fortress skin is particularly useful against the Demon King:

• Owning the skin provides 1% additional damage against monsters.
• Equipping the skin provides another 5% monster damage.
• When owned and equipped, these effects provide a combined 6% increase.

Every damage bonus helps. Combine the right heroes, skills, gear, faction advantages, placement, and Sanctuary effects to maximize your Demon King score and contribute as much as possible during KvK.
