Troop Training Guide: The Waterfall Method
Train lower-tier soldiers, then promote them toward your target tier. Use this guide to compare the complete training route, budget resources, and plan your next batch.

The waterfall example, step by step
The supplied chart shows one fresh T4 batch followed by three promotions. It jumps from T6 to T8; it does not provide a separate T7 step. Follow the promotion choices available in your own Training Ground.
| Action | Time | Grain | Wood |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train T4 fresh | 09:21:03 | 365K | 365K |
| Promote T4 → T5 | 01:52:13 | 341K | 341K |
| Promote T5 → T6 | 03:44:26 | 632K | 632K |
| Promote T6 → T8 | 05:29:47 | 1.23M | 1.23M |
| Complete route | 20:27:29 | ≈2.568M | ≈2.568M |
The four timers add to 20 hours, 27 minutes, 29 seconds. The original chart compares that with 40+ hours for fresh T8 training. Against exactly 40 hours, the difference would be 19:32:31, or about 49% less time.
Compare like for like: that percentage only means something when troop count, troop type, research, VIP and buffs match. The chart does not specify those conditions, so treat its comparison as an example rather than a guaranteed saving. Resource totals use rounded chart values; there is no direct-T8 resource bill here to prove a resource saving.
Build a repeatable training setup
The linked training guide recommends four Training Grounds: one upgraded for your highest available tier and three level-10 grounds producing T4. It places the fourth ground unlock in Development research.
Prioritize Training Specialization for speed and Training Ground Expansion for capacity. Look in Full Development, Development and Elite Troop for the relevant upgrades and prerequisites.
- Keep support grounds training T4 in parallel.
- Use the main ground’s Promote option to upgrade stored troops toward your unlocked cap.
- Refill completed queues and balance production with promotion capacity.
This direct-to-cap approach differs from the staged T4 → T5 → T6 → T8 chart above. Compare both available routes in-game.
Event timing: the linked guide recommends training-day speedups and an alliance training boost. It distinguishes fresh-training points from speedup points during promotion. Our earlier Alliance Duel material uses different promotion advice. Check the current event scoring screen before spending.
Before you commit a large batch
- Choose a fixed headcount. Write down the troop type, starting tier and target tier so every comparison uses the same soldiers.
- Record the full route. Include fresh training, every promotion, and any time waiting for the promotion ground to become free.
- Add every resource charge. A cheaper first queue does not automatically mean a cheaper finished army.
- Check your bonuses. Research, technology, VIP and temporary buffs can change the displayed estimates.
- Test event credit. Record your score, finish a small batch, and check which scoring category changed before committing your saved speedups.
- Plan your return. Pick a batch that finishes when you can restart the queue.
Does every promotion step have to be used?
The poster records one example sequence. It does not establish that every account must follow those intermediate tiers. Compare the promotion routes your game actually offers.
Will this always halve my training time?
No. Use your own matching batch measurements. Neither an unspecified screenshot nor a shorter promotion timer alone proves the total saving for your account.
